A Pair of Candy Clark Costumes from The Man Who Fell To Earth

British Lion Films, 1976. Comprising:
1. A two-piece floral rayon ensemble, A-line skirt and tunic blouse, custom tailored with no labels.
2. A two-piece blue wool Chanel-style suit, textured weave with needlepoint trim, custom tailored with no labels, some mothing to interior lining.

Provenance: From the collection of actress Candy Clark.

Candy Clark falls in love with alien David Bowie in this science fiction film which does not reflect well on the inhabitants of earth. Norman Roeg directed this unusual chronicle of an alien attempting to save his dying planet which needs water. He looks to love interest Clark, as Mary Lou, to save him from the forces who are holding him captive. The film was described as a "powerful love story, a cosmic mystery, a spectacular fantasy, and a shocking mind-stretching experience." It was Bowie's first dramatic performance. Of working with Bowie, Clark recalled, "David wasn't a person who ever expressed what he was feeling ... outside of acting together, we never had dinner or spent any non-working time together. He was very removed and quiet." Clark wears the black suit in the scene where she sits in the office with Buck Henry and cries because she wants Tommy (the Bowie character). The flowered outfit is worn in the scene where the characters have aged and Clark is eating dinner in a restaurant.
