"It's a Bird... It's a Plane... It's Superman" Theatrical Poster
New York: Artcraft Litho & Ptg. Co., 1966. Lithographic poster, 22 x 14 in. for Hal Prince's production of the Superman musical at the Shubert theatre February 15-March 12, 1966.
Once Broadway's biggest flop, this musical based on the DC Comic book superhero, Superman, eventually spawned a television show and several revivals over the decades. Legendary Broadway director Harold Prince was at the helm of the original 1966 production which featured music and lyrics by Charles Strouse and Lee Adams, star Jack Cassidy (who was nominated for a Tony Award), and choreography by Ernie Flatt – all ingredients for a sure-fire hit. Unfortunately, the show closed after 129 performances.
Provenance: The Estate of Wes Shank.
22 x 14 in.
