An Exhibitor's Campaign Book for The Seven Year Itch
Twentieth Century-Fox, 1955. Comprising a 24 pp booklet of publicity ideas, photos, cast information, behind-the-scenes filming tidbits, a synopsis of the film, and plenty of images of Marilyn Monroe in the famous scene in which her skirt blows over a subway grating. The press book offers dozens of ideas to help publicize the film at local theatres and in cities nationwide, including a giant full-color life-size cut-out standee of Monroe in the famous skirt scene and special "Marilyn Monroe art." Directed by Billy Wilder and starring Monroe and Tom Ewell, the film was based on a play by George Axelrod. Monroe pestered her agent, Charles Feldman, repeatedly about getting the role of "The Girl," and her instincts were correct; the film launched her career like no other. The press book boasts that the movie is "the most thoroughly pre-sold attraction of the year!" and this may be one publicity statement that was actually true!
