These two large diptych collages are made up of interchangeable panels, which means they can be configured as shown here, or arranged differently. In making So What #1 and So What #2, Mohammed Omar Khalil was inspired by music, specifically 'So What' by legendary jazz musician Miles Davis, the first track on the iconic Kind of Blue album (1959). A favourite of the artist's, the music ignited colours and images, stirring a raw energy which manifested into an exploration of pattern, tone and various regional influences. Picturing the lively but moving musical piece in visual form, Khalil tunes in to the emotions emanating from Davis' trumpet and creates an endlessly stimulating sensory experience.
