The Cabestan Trapezium 5 is a remarkable and rare timepiece that stands out for its unique design and mechanical complexity. Inspired by maritime elements, the watch features a vertical movement and display, reminiscent of a capstan or winch used on ships. The hand-wound movement features a vertical tourbillon, but probably even more impressive brilliance in the design lies in merging the ancient capstan and the historic fusée and chain mechanism, both with centuries-old origins, into a highly technical and visually captivating watch. Developed by Eric Coudray, the movement features a miniature reverse fusée system that effectively compensates for the mainspring's torque loss, ensuring a constant force to the vertical tourbillon. Time is indicated by two rotating drums for hours and minutes, with a separate drum on the tourbillon for seconds display. The present example takes things further in terms of design with a titanium case, and wood panels on the case sides, thus truly evoking the maritime themes at the heart of the brand. The Cabestan Trapezium 5 is truly a watch unlike any other, and for collectors of all things independent, is an extremely rare and unique timepiece for any collection.
