Patek Philippe is celebrated for its iconic line of perpetual calendar wristwatches with moon phases, starting with the first serialized model, reference 1526, which was launched in 1941. This intricate and elegant Calatrava style case marked the beginning of a series of significant 20th-century timepieces showcasing Patek Philippe's reputation as the world's greatest maison. In 2003, reference 5136 was introduced as a modern perpetual calendar wristwatch for the new millennium, succeeding the reference 3945 from 1987, which featured a bracelet and a larger, more contemporary case size that was becoming more prevalent at the time. The reference 5136, produced until 2008, came in both yellow and white gold, featured detachable gold bracelets, and was powered by the automatic caliber 240Q movement which employs a micro rotor design. The current lot is a beautiful example of this iconic reference and is sure to find a welcome home in any great collection.
