Introduced in 2010, the Patek Philippe ref. 5726 was the first Nautilus model to incorporate the brand's renowned annual calendar complication, originally launched in 1996 with the ref. 5035. Designed by Laurent Junod, Patek Philippe's technical director, this annual calendar requires adjustment only once a year, between February 28th or 29th and March 1st. In many ways it is the most practical complication and was the first one that was truly developed by the famed maison over 50 years after the release of its famed reference 1518, the world's first serially produced perpetual calendar wristwatch. The initial release featured a stainless steel case with a grey dial and a leather strap, and its perfectly symmetrical dial quickly gained favor among collectors. In 2012, Patek Philippe introduced a version with a white dial, and fitted the black gradient example with a steel bracelet. Both variants have since been discontinued in favor of the new blue gradient dial that was launched in 2019. The current lot is a beautiful example of the black gradient dial version on stainless steel bracelet, is in very good condition and includes it full suite of accessories. For any lovers of Patek Philippe, or those looking to pick up this beautiful yet discontinued version, there is no need to look further.
