The present view is taken from a point near San Biagio, on the right is Forni militari with the campanili of San Giovanni Bragora and San Giorgio dei Greco. Further along the Riva one can see the Molo with the Doge's Palace and Campanile of San Marco. Santa Maria della Salute and San Giorgio Maggiore are visible on the left.
Canaletto painted this view more than once and the present composition comes closest to his work from circa 1734/5, now in the Sir John Soane Museum, London (inv. no.P66).
