Footnotes
FIRST EDITION OF OLIVER BYRNE'S EUCLID, "ONE OF THE ODDEST AND MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOKS OF THE WHOLE CENTURY... a triumph for Charles Whittingham " (Ruari McLean, Victorian Book Design and Printing, 1963).
Provenance: Dr. George Hurrell (1896-1978), ownership inscription on front free endpaper. Hurrell was the Tuberculosis Medical Officer of the city of Newcastle upon Tyne between 1925-45, appointed to Medical Superintendent in 1945 and retired in 1964. Loosely inserted is a letter, dated 1949, to Hurrell, from the bindery J.W. Moore mentioning that a copy of the Euclid is being displayed at the Book League Exibition; by descent to vendor.
