Footnotes

Provenance
Private collection, UK.

It has been suggested that this is in fact J. D. Fergusson and his then partner Anne Estelle Rice. Depicted as they would have been seen, promenading in Paris. This attribution has come from the original description given by Fergusson's life partner, Margaret Morris, although with the loose execution it is hard to make out Fergusson's distinctive take on his self-portraiture.
