Believed to be painted in 1927, the same year that Peploe was elected as a member of the Royal Scottish Academy. The present work demonstrates the subtle palette characteristic of Peploe in the later 1920s. There is a focus on expressing the play of light upon form and colour. He was less concerned with conveying the emotion of the model on this occasion, than he was with the shapes created by her pose and the delicate tones of the costume and skin.
