An Original Poster and Ticket Stub for The Rocky Horror Show

London: c.1974. Theatrical poster printed in full color on white paper, 20 x 12.5 in. Some spotting and dampstaining. WITH: "Let's Do The ... Time Warp / Basic Steps." Single sheet, 8 x 11.5 in. describing the dance steps "(It's just a) Jump to the left ... a step to the right." FRAMED TOGETHER to 17.5 x 37 in. AND WITH: Ticket stub, 2 1/4 x 1 1/2 in. to King's Road Theatre (Essoldo Cinema) in Chelsea, Wednesday, January 4, [1974], seat L5.

A cult classic that has persisted and grown since its inception on the West End in London, The Rocky Horror Show (later to become the film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show [1975]) was like nothing anyone had ever seen before. After its huge success in London, it bombed on Broadway in 1975 after only 45 performances, but the seed had been sown. It has since been performed in six continents and made actor Tim Curry, who starred in the original play and the film, a household name. Its campy music, dances, and characters that parody 1930s science fiction and B films have prompted midnight theater showings for decades and continuous stage play productions.

The show opened in July of 1973 at the tiny Royal Court Theatre in Sloane Square. Its rave reviews required a move to a larger theater, first at the Chelsea Classics Theatre on King's Road before finally settling in for a long run at the Essoldo on King's Road.
17.5 x 37 in.
