Nicolas Morelli (1771-1838) était un sculpteur italien renommé pour ses camées d'une grande délicatesse, taillés dans différentes pierres dures comme l'agate. Morelli se distinguait par sa précision anatomique et son sens esthétique raffiné, créant des compositions harmonieuses. Il est connu pour avoir été l'un des premiers professeurs de Benedetto Pistrucci et a été admis en 1812 à l'Accademia di San Luca. Parmi ses mécènes les plus célèbres figurent Napoléon Ier et la famille Bonaparte, François Ier d'Autriche et le comte Sommariva.

Of oval design, centring on a carved agate cameo depicting a lady in profile, within a surround of half-pearls, signed MORELLI on the cameo, French import marks for 18 carat gold, measurements 5.80 x 4.50 cm, gross weight 51.22 grams, one half-pearl is deficient.
Nicolas Morelli (1771-1838) was a renowned Italian sculptor known for his exquisitely crafted cameos, carved from various hard stones such as agate and sardonyx. Morelli was distinguished by his anatomical precision and refined aesthetic sense, creating harmonious compositions. He is known to be one of Benedetto Pistrucci's first teachers and in 1812 was admitted to the Accademia di San Luca. His most famous patrons included Napoleon I and the Bonaparte family, Francis I of Austria and Count Sommariva.
