Sir Lepel Griffin (1838-1908) was a British diplomat. He was also the author of Chiefs and Families of Note in the Punjab (with Col. C. F. Massy), 1909-11, as well as The Punjab Chiefs, The Rajas of the Punjab, and The Law of Inheritance to Sikh Chiefships (as noted in his preface to this work).

Gordon's The Sikhs ranges from their origins and the Gurus, through the growth of the khalsa and the rise of Maharajah Ranjit Singh, the wars with the British and British rule.
