A gilt-copper hilted steel sword (shamshir)
India, Kutch, 19th Century

the single-edged steel blade of curved form, chiselled and decorated in silver-gilt overlay to both sides of the forte with a floral vine in a cartouche terminating in a palmette, the gilt-copper hilt of typical form engraved and decorated with floral sprays and motifs and inlaid with paste, the wood sheath clad in gilt-copper engraved and decorated in repoussé with scrolling floral vines interspersed by birds and quadrupeds in hunting scenes, with two suspension loops
