Footnotes

The identity of Jacob Chareza, presumably the individual for whom this bottle was made, is unclear but the surname is unusual and prevalent in Poland. The 1747 city inventory of the Lubartów estates records a 'Jakub Charęza na Zarębinym' living on Krzywe Koło street, who may be of some relation, see Dariusz Kupisz, 'Mieszkańcy i zabudowa Lubartowa w inwentarzu miasta z 1747 roku', Rocznik Lubelski (2016), p.243.

Saleroom notices

Please note that the scene titled 'S. Maria. Carmeli' depicts Our Lady of Mount Carmel extending the scapular to the souls engulfed in the flames of purification in Purgatory, extending their arms in prayer to her, and is not from the book of 2 Kings as stated in the catalogue description. The Carmelite Scapular and the Sabbatine Privilege are both referenced in the scene.
