Footnotes

Provenance
With Pryce and Brise Antiques, 9 June 1989
Leuba Collection

The canary-yellow thread is the rarest of all colour twist types and it is exceptionally rare to find an example with a bowl of this shape. An identical glass, also from the Leuba Collection, was sold by Bonhams on 13 December 2023, lot 130. That example is illustrated by L M Bickerton, Eighteenth Century English Drinking Glasses (1986), p.240, no.737 and by Christopher Sheppard and John Smith, Glass from the Restoration to the Regency (1990), p.71, no.104. An canary-yellow colour twist glass with a plain bucket bowl was sold by Bonhams as part of the A C Hubbard Jr Collection on 30 November 2011, lot 197. See also the example from the Durrington Collection sold by Bonhams on 15 November 2023, lot 58. For a remarkable canary-yellow colour twist goblet, see that sold by Bonhams on 20 June 2023, lot 122.
