A fine and rare acorn-knopped heavy baluster wine glass, circa 1710

The thistle bowl solid at the base, the stem with a substantial teared acorn knop terminating in a basal knop, over a folded conical foot,

Footnotes

It is most unusual to find a thistle bowl in combination with this rare knop form, with round funnel bowls being more typical. A pair of almost identical glasses was sold by Bonhams on 18 June 2024, lot 64. For an engraved example of similar form, see that illustrated by Illustrated by Dwight P Lanmon, The Golden Age of English Glass (2011), pp.140-1, no.40, which was sold by Bonhams on 2 November 2015, lot 13.

Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
