This glass belongs to a distinct group of glasses all with mixed blue colour twist stems and bell bowls engraved with large single animals. Three examples respectively engraved with a rhinoceros, a bull and a wild boar were offered by Bonhams on 20 May 2015, lots 51-53. An example engraved with a prancing stag was sold by Sotheby's on 18 December 2002, lot 119. These glasses may all have come from a single original set and relate to a series of mixed colour twist wine glasses engraved with single botanical specimens, the stems either with blue, green or opaque green threads. Three glasses from this group, probably engraved by the same hand, were in the Julius and Ann Kaplan Collection sold by Bonhams on 15 November 2017, lots 60, 63 and 64. Another was sold by Bonhams on 1 December 2021, lot 141. Further examples with related engraving are discussed by Delomosne and Son, The Seton Veitch Collection (2006), no.43, where a Low Countries origin is suggested.
