Provenance
Bonhams, 18 May 2011, lot 510
Charles Dawson Collection

Illustrated and discussed by Charles Dawson pp.162-3, fig.16.22. These plaques were personal pieces painted by Thomas Lowe, who was a figure painter at Flight's factory and is mentioned by Solomon Cole as having been a pupil of Thomas Baxter. In July 1819 Baxter wrote to a friend regarding the painting of figures at Flight, Barr and Barr stating '...their figure painting is now done by a pupil of mine named Lowe'. It is interesting to note the Flight, Barr and Barr vase painted in the manner of Baxter visible in the niche behind Charles Heath.
