Provenance
Bonhams, 10 December 2008, lot 237
Charles Dawson Collection

Illustrated and discussed by Charles Dawson, Worcester Flight & Barr Porcelain (2023), pp.206-7, fig.18.23. Joseph Cottrill was apprenticed to Martin Barr and is best known for painting a coffee can at the age of 15 at the top of St Andrew's 245-foot Spire, a stone's throw away from the Worcester factory. Very little is known about his work, but the pencil inscription on the reverse of this plaque would appear to suggest Cottrill was an accomplished flower painter.
