Footnotes

Provenance
Bonhams, 18 May 2011, lot 451

A closely related tureen and cover from the Geoffrey Godden Collection was sold by Bonhams on 30 June 2010, lot 15. Although printed and not painted, it shares the same paste and glaze, gadroon moulding and the idiosyncratic positioning of the feet which are hollow cast with vent holes. The Godden example has patch marks on the cover and the printed decoration is also found on Duesbury Derby porcelains. Clearly of Derbyshire origin, this group of porcelain is not the product of the main Nottingham Road site. An attribution to Cockpit Hill seems most likely.
