Worcester's 'toys' in the 'Prunus Root' pattern were created specifically for the Dutch market, where the fashion for collecting miniature or toy ornaments made of silver was well established by the middle of the 18th century. This shape of kettle stand copies a contemporary Dutch metalware shape. The full-sized bowl would have been used in the kitchen, filled with hot coals, and a metal kettle would be placed on top to keep the water boiling. A similar miniature stand was in the Zorensky Collection, illustrated by Sandon and Spero, Worcester Porcelain (1996), fig.602.
