Worcester's 'toys' in the Prunus Root pattern were created specifically for the Dutch market, and it is hardly surprising that many of the surviving examples have been discovered in Holland. The fashion for collecting miniature or toy ornaments made of silver was well established in the Netherlands by the middle of the 18th century. Pottery makers in Staffordshire supplied this market with toys made of saltglaze, redware and Whieldon-glazed bodies and Worcester clearly saw an opportunity to create some of their most endearing productions. This kettle, with its overhead handle is, indeed, a distinctly Dutch form. Worcester also created toy models of kettle stands- pierced bowls on three feet- but in scale they do not seem to fit the few surviving kettles.
