A fine Dutch engraved light baluster wine glass, circa 1740-50

The slightly flared pointed round funnel bowl decorated with a lady emblematic of Flora seated in a garden beside a pedestal, flowers in her hair, three square beds of flowers on the ground around her, her arm extended to reach for a bloom offered by Cupid in flight before her, inscribed 'FLORA' above, the rim with a formal zigzag border, on a slender stem with two shoulder knops above a beaded inverted baluster and basal knop, over a conical foot, 18.6cm high

A glass with the same border to the rim is illustrated and discussed by Anna Laméris, Amicitiae: A Toast to Friendship (2018), pp.26-7, no.7 and belongs to a distinct group of glasses by an unknown Rotterdam engraver also responsible for a marriage goblet commemorating Montauban van Swijndregt, illustrated by Nora Schadee, Met rad en Diamant (1989), pp.25 and 72-3, no.95. Compare also to the example from the Chris Crabtree Collection sold by Bonhams on 20 June 2023, lot 103.
