This is a rare example of a pattern usually seen in underglaze blue but executed instead in enamel colours. The border moulding has been recorded only on a small number of teabowls and saucers and is among Worcester's earliest attempts at fine press-moulded decoration. It may be a precursor of what became known as the 'Chrysanthemum' pattern.
