A rare garlanded flat bouquet paperweight, probably American, circa 1850-80

Inset with two poinsettia or clematis-like flowers with striped petals, one in pink and white, the other in yellow with some pink petals, with blue and white composite cane centres, on conjoined stems with three bright green leaves, all scattered with 'dewdrops', within a millefiori garland of alternate red and white composite canes, 7.6cm diam, 5.1cm high

Footnotes

'Dewdrops' are a feature of many American flower weights and the pastel colours employed in this example are reminiscent of weights produced in America during the Classic period, particularly at the New England Glass Co and the Boston Sandwich Glass Co, although French manufacture cannot be completely ruled out.
