Footnotes

Provenance
Private Collection, Belgium

The name for glasses of this type in both Dutch and German translates as 'measuring glass'. Most examples are applied with evenly spaced individual bands which acted as measures for communal drinking games, although others are known with continuous spiral bands. A similar example is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (inv. no.27.185.105).
