APPLE MACINTOSH FIRST GENERATION ADVERTISING BANNER.

APPLE COMPUTER, INC. Macintosh / Hello. White Tyvek ® banner printed in colors, [Cupertino, CA: c. 1984], 1,000 x 1,900 mm, stitched at edges, with inset metal grommets, some creasing, minor soiling, and fading.

Apple launched the Macintosh in 1984 with a groundbreaking advertising campaign. One of the most iconic images of that campaign was of a Macintosh with the word "Hello" displayed in script on the screen. The image suggested not only the advanced (for the time) graphic capabilities of the Macintosh, but also its user-friendly interface. The original Macintosh developed a cult following that has shaped not only the Apple Computer Company, but the overall perception of what a personal computer should be — a perception that endures to this day.
