PASTEUR HELPS HIS SISTER'S FAMILY.

PASTEUR, LOUIS. 1822-1895. Autograph Letter Signed ("L. Pasteur"), to Edmond Bonnotte ("Cher Monsieur") making financial arrangements and purchasing tickets for the lottery, 1 p, 206 x 133 mm, first leaf of a bifolium, Paris, December 28, 1880, old folds.

PASTEUR ARRANGES FOR THE PURCHASE OF HIS FAMILY HOME, USING LOTTERY BONDS. Pasteur's sister had died in August of 1880, and he arranged to buy the shares of their family home from his brother-in-law Vichot and his nephews. He writes here to the banker Edmond Bonnotte arranging to pay money using lottery bonds, a French financial instrument that was a government bond, which allowed the holder to participate in an annual lottery which would pay off his debt. He ends by inquiring of Bonnotte's family, and reporting his own joy the birth of a grand-daughter.
