A JOHN B. DANCER BRASS MICROSCOPE.

Mid-19th c., signed and inscribed "J. B. Dancer / Optician, / Manchester" to the base, in a fitted mahogany box with graduated drawers containing spare lenses, plates, ocular lenses, tools and other accessories, trade label to inside of door, mid-19th century. Overall height 49 cm; height of instrument 43 cm.

John B. Dancer (1812-1887) was a celebrated London optician and instrument maker who also made important progress in the field of microphotography.
