A Regency patinated and gilt bronze mounted rouge griotte marble inkstand

In the manner of Thomas Messanger & Sons
Formed as a stylised scallop shell, the hinged lid enclosing a fitted interior with a central glass ink receiver, and three lift out shaped compartments or wells, raised on a dolphin support with intertwined scrolling tail, on starburst plate, raised on a square plinth and foliate cast shallow square base, 27.5cm high, 14cm wide, 17cm deep

Thomas Messengers and Sons were listed in contemporary trade directories in the early 19th century as manufacturers of bronze and ormolu domestic objects including lamps with a metal foundry in Birmingham.
