A good George III silver-gilt large lidded tankard

William Frisbee, London 1809
Tall cylindrical form, the body cast and applied with putti at play, some playing musical instruments among trees, with a band of fruiting grape vines above and large shell embellishment to the front, hinged cushion form dome cover, bellied sides with acanthus and central roundel in relief with two seated putti among fruiting vines, the acanthus thumb piece with a grotesque mask to the reverse, the ornate cast handle capped with Bacchic mask with graduated scales below terminating with a mythological birds head and acanthus embellishments, on a spreading circular foot, chased with acanthus, scrolls with masks, height 28cm, weight 122oz.
