Head of Knightsbridge Silver Department
Provenance:
The Patrick and Mavis Walker Silver Collection
These appear to have a quartered arms of the DENNISTOUN family of Colgrain, Dumbartonshire.
The second quartering is of the arms of the MUIRHEAD family of Lauchop, Scotland.
The third quartering is of the arms of the BANNATYNE family of Kames, Bute.
Robert BANNATYNE (1774-1841) married Mary DENNISTOUN (born 1774) in 1797 at Greenock.
There is no indication of the children of this marriage adopting the family name DENNISTO(U)N.
We also note that a James DENNISTOUN (1803-1855), of Glasgow and founder of the Glasgow suburb of Dennistoun, was associated with the gentleman's club: The Bannatyne Club, before its formation in 1823 and afterwards as a member.
The club is significant in the study of Scottish literature. Another member was a member of the MUIRHEAD family.
