An unusual Persian silk panel

Late 17th/early 18th century
The main field with metal thread of striped rows of flowering roses probably formerly part of a sash, with a contemporaneous brocade border of scrolling floral vine, cotton backed and with blue silk outerslip,

Provenance:
Property of a private collector

A fragment of the same fabric as in the main field of our panel can be found in the Museum fuer Kunsthandwerk - Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (Inventory number 28406) which is published in "Reingard Neumann & Gerhard Murza: Persische Seiden: Die Gewebekunst der Safawiden und ihrer Nachfolger. Leipzib, Seemann, 1988", page 178, plate 114; and dated second half of 17th century. A sash with a similar fabric and border can be found in the Museum of Decorative Art, Copenhagen (inv. nos. B 21/1931) which is published in "K. von Folsach and A.-M. Keblow Bernstad, Woven Treasures - Textiles from the World of Islam, Copenhagen, 1993", page 119, cat 43, and dated as first half of 18th century.
