A very impressive early 20th century Vienna-style porcelain vase and cover

Circa 1900
The ovoid body painted with a continuous figural frieze depicting an assembly of various classical characters probably from the Iliad, entitled to the base, 'The Offering' the figures including Homer and the goddesses Athena and Artemis, signed in gilt H. Stadler, possibly for Hans Johann Stadler (German, 1848-1916), reserved on a richly tooled trellis ground, within gilt foliate tooled and jewelled cobalt borders, the flared neck and shallow ogee domed cover with gilt pine cone finial similarly decorated, on corresponding circular socle, and waisted plinth base, further decorated with twin cartouches depicting further figural classical scenes, the underside with blue painted pseudo factory mark and red painted inscribed scene titles, 132.5cm high overall, 31.5cm diameter

Property of a Private Collector

Hans Johann Stadler (German, 1848-1916) was a pupil of Hiltensperger and studied at the Academy Munchen. He worked for most of his life in Bamberg, Germany and was known to be a porcelain painter for the Royal Vienna Porcelain Manufactory.
