A pair of Louis XVI giltwood bergeres

Circa 1790, each with channelled and lotus-leaf moulded frames, with spiral fluted and acanthus clasped baluster form terminals each headed by a mille raie block surmounted by a flowerhead panel, with stop fluted angles, on fluted tapering legs, the front legs headed with rosettes, re-gilt, both bergeres with the printed number: '47011' and a label which reads: '2528', one chair marked: 'C.I.V.M.', each approximately: 66cm wide x 67cm deep x 97cm high, (25 1/2in wide x 26in deep x 38in high) (2)

Footnotes

The arm terminals and legs of the bergeres forming the offered lot are slightly redolent of a number of chairs executed by B. Harmer during the final decade of the 18th century. A set of six armchairs, likewise described as being in the manner of B. Harmer, which have similar arms, legs and seat frames to the present examples sold Sotheby's, London, 27 May 2015, Property from the Estate of Mary, Duchess of Roxburghe, lot 269.
