A Berlin cabinet cup and saucer, circa 1803-13

Each with a finely-painted panel in imitation of micro-mosaic depicting the pyramid of Cestius on the cup and the Temple of Venus on the Forum Romanum on the saucer, reserved against a burnished gilt ground with panels imitating pietra dura, between micro-mosaic stylised floral borders on a blue ground, the snake handle, cup interior and reverse of the saucer with a copper lustre-ground, with gilt scales on the handle, gilt rims, the saucer: 15.2cm diam.; the cup: 7.4cm high, sceptre marks in underglaze-blue and dash in blue, impressed 33 (cup) and 36 (saucer) (2)
