A Vienna, Sorthenthal period, coffee can and saucer, circa 1802

The cup painted by Anton Kothgasser with a gilt-edged oval medallion depicting Paris and Oenone, against a band of alternating burnished gilt and dark-blue-ground panels embellished with foliate motifs, the saucer similarly decorated, the saucer: 13.5cm diam.; the cup: 6cm high, shield marks in underglaze-blue, both with impressed date code 802, and 6 and II, respectively, the cup with painter's number 96. in manganese (2)
