A Berlin topographical cabinet plate, circa 1815

Finely painted in sepia monochrome with a view of the colonnades at Sanssouci, within a gilt-edged green-ground band with a border of flowers, the burnished gilt-ground rim with a band of floral motifs in ovals, 24.3cm diam., sceptre mark in underglaze-blue, gilt numeral 121., indistinct impressed mark, incised III inside footrim

This plate is recorded in the order book of the Berlin manufactory in September 1815; the anonymous drawing that served as a model for the view on the plate has also survived (Wittwer, op. cit, p. 320).
