Footnotes

Modelled by Carl Martin-Hansen (1877-1941), this figure group is from a series of Danish National Costumes, consisting of 47 figures modelled between 1906 and 1925. 42 of these figures formed part of a gift presented to King Christian X and Queen Alexandrine on the occasion of their silver wedding anniversary in 1923. The figures represented typical costumes of the inhabitants of all the territories over which Christian X ruled, namely Denmark, The Faeroe Islands and Greenland as well as Iceland, and the former Duchy of Schleswig or South Jutland, part of which had voted to re-join Denmark just three years before the Royal Silver Wedding.

Another group of this series was sold in these rooms, 14 May 2008, lot 234, and Bruun Rasmussen/Bonhams on 27 May 2024, lot 2422/193.
