A Sèvres plate fond beau bleu frise et fleurs ordered by Napoleon Bonaparte, circa 1808

Decorated with a radiating central star of gilt naturalistic leaves surrounded by a band of polychrome flowers under a darb blue rim picked out with gilt floral elements, 23.6cm diam., M.Imp.le de Sevres 8 in red enamel to the base, incised A and painted 10 in green (small restored chip and resulting haircrack to the rim, shallow flat chip to inside footrim)

This plate was part of a service delivered to the Tuillerie Palace on 20 August 1808. For further reading see: Camille Leprince, Napoléon Ier & la Manufacture de Sèvres (2016), no. 118, where the author links the service to an earlier delivery of 1806, with one plate (now in the collection of Château de Malmaison) labelled on the reverse 'Rapportée à Ste Hélène' (brought to St Helena).
