Footnotes

Provenance:
With E. & H. Manners;
Mavis Bimson Collection

Although unrecorded, other Buen Retiro figures of similar large scale are known, perhaps by the same highly accomplished hand. See the series of such figures in the Museo Arqueológico Nacional, Madrid and illustrated in Manufactura Del Buen Retiro 1760-1808 (1999), no.145. One is marked 'FF' and attributed to Felipe Fumo, a sculptor at the factory between 1764-85.
