THREE PORTRAITS OF JOHN STEINBECK.

1. Gelatin silver print, 8 x 10 inch portrait of Steinbeck in suit and tie, no facial hair, c.1920, signed "Tunnicliffe S.F." at lower right and stamped on verso, matted.
2. Gelatin print photograph, 8 x 10 inch portrait of Steinbeck in sweatshirt and leather coat, c.1935, signed "Sonia Noskowiak / Carmel" at lower mount, print mounted to 455 x 355 mm board.
3. Gelatin silver print, 8 x 10 inch portrait of Steinbeck in suit and tie, small mustache, 1947, signed "New York 1947 / Joseph Breitenbach A.R.P.S." at lower mount, initialed on print and stamped on the verso.

Three portraits of the author taken at the beginning and middle of his career, the first taken at the beginning of his collegiate career at Stanford.
