8vo. Publisher's gray cloth lettered in garnet, top edge light blue, lacking jacket. Interior very clean, some browning to upper cover and spine.
Provenance: : John and Carol Steinbeck (ownership stamp to front pastedown); by descent.

FIRST EDITION, FOURTH ISSUE, AUTHOR'S COPY, with stamp to front pastedown: "THIS BOOK BELONGS / TO CAROL AND / JOHN STEINBECK." Likely part of the "incunabula" (March 13, 1953) or "bunch of junk" (November 19, 1956) that Steinbeck mentions sending to Joan and David Heyler in his correspondence. Goldstone & Payne A2d.
