Cover with marks for Hendrik de Hondt, Amsterdam, 1689, the porcelain Arita, circa 1700
Of pear form, painted in underglaze-blue with panels of figures in stylised landscape alternating with Chinese-inspired mountainous landscape separated by bands of repeated karakusa ('Chinese grasses'), the circular hinged cover with a lobed rim, the shallow dome with alternating lobed decoration, centred with a flower head boss, scroll thumbpiece with fluted junction ajoining the handle, 16cm wide, 16cm deep, 26cm high, (6in wide, 6in deep, 10in high).
