Footnotes

The present lot takes its inspiration from a Zhou dynasty archaic bronze ding, reflecting the taste for archaism that had already been established since the Northern Song Dynasty. See a related example of a miniature jade incense burner, Song to Ming dynasty, illustrated in J.J. Lally & Co., Chinese Art from the Scholar's Studio, Spring 2015, no.15.
