It is believed that the sitter in this portrait is Mr George Darlinson. Significantly, Darlinson's 'Homfray' won the 1904 Waterloo Cup; this race being the most prestigious in the coursing event calendar.
George Morley was an animal painter who exhibited at the Royal Academy, and British institution. He was employed by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, amongst other members of the royal family, to paint portraits of their horses and dogs.
