Footnotes

The present works shows a portrait of Miss Ellen Power, niece of Lady Blessington, lying on a pillow, head in profile to left, reading a letter, surrounded by three puppies, a jewellery cushion on a table beside her. Miss Power holds a paper on which is written some verses signed 'Carolus'.

The original picture by Sir Edwin Landseer RA was painted for Robert Vernon, Esq., and presented to His Majesty the King of the Belgians by H.R.H. Prince Consort.

There is an example of this 1842 edition signed by Thomas Landseer in the Royal Collection.
