A Basket-Hilted Backsword In Scottish Mid-18th Century Style

With earlier blade double-edged towards the point and cut with three shallow fullers along most of its length on each side, the forte on both sides now incised 'A.N.D.R.E.A. F.E.R.A.R.A.', iron guard of waved bars of rectangular section framing an openwork design of knotted twig-like bars surmounted by two looped piercings, side-bars en suite above stylised 'ram's horn', waved fore-guards and rear guard, small scrolled wrist-guard, integral ring at the top beneath the fluted line engraved bun-shaped pommel with separate flat button, and spirally-grooved fishskin-covered grip between Turk's heads
